Some states require a license to adjust claims in their state, while others do not require a license. Even with states that do not require a license, the company you work for or want to work for may require a license. This license is called a DHS or Designated Home State license. This license allows you to adjust claims in another state or different states. One of the best DHS licenses to obtain is a Florida 70-20 Nonresident DHS license. It offers great reciprocity and Florida has the quickest application turnaround time.

Yes, you can be licensed in multiple states. Being licensed in multiple states offers an advantage and opens a pool of opportunities. You will apply for a reciprocal license. This allows adjusters to obtain licenses in other states without fulfilling all the usual licensing requirements, such as taking exams, by leveraging existing licenses from their home state. This is a great way to save money and time.

Do I need a license if I live in a state that doesn’t require adjusters to be licensed ?

Technically, you do not need a license to adjust claims if you are in a non licensing state. The company you want to work for or works for may require it. Some companies require you to have a license even if you live in a non licensing state.

Do claims adjusters make good money?

Yes claims adjusters make good money. Adjusters average salary in the United States is $64,609. That’s a good entry level and starting point in your career. Depending on the company you could make more. The best thing about adjusters is the ability to be flexible and work as an independent contractor for larger companies.
